Green tea and the heart: healthy drink or overrated hype?

Green tea has been considered healthy for years. The tea contains catechins, a group of antioxidants that are the subject of much research.
Large population studies often see a slightly better heart profile in regular tea drinkers. However, such studies do not prove cause and effect. Tea drinkers often differ from non-tea drinkers in other ways as well.
As part of a healthy pattern, a few cups of green tea a day is fine. There have been reports of liver complaints from high doses of tea extracts, so be more cautious with those.
